Pukekos
I was asked to make a pukeko by friends from overseas who had never seen one before. Though reluctant at first it seems they are addictive, both to make and to own! Each bird is hand built (not moulded) so they readily take on a character of their own.
They are made from earthenware paper clay and after firing were sealed, painted with enamel and finally coated with clear lacquer. |
The legs are made from reinforcing rods which can be pushed into the ground so they can happily take their place in the garden.
